CableCards &
Channel Corrections
(April 8th, 2008)
I just spoke
to Terry at Cablevision, he is patiently waiting for the
CableCards to arrive. He ordered them 7 weeks ago, so the
hold up is with the supplier.
He expects them to be here within the next week.
Going forward all channel corrections will go through Terry
(CEO of Cablevision). We have had some problems with my
requests to have line-ups fixed, mainly because I'm not an
employee of Cablevision, so technically not allowed to make
the requests.
You can continue to email me if you don't get timely
responses from Cablevision.
CableCards
(March 6th, 2008)
FYI.
CableCards are being shipped in, should be some available
soon.
Channel Fixes
(December 3rd, 2007)
Sorry for the
radio silence over the past two months, but I've been super
busy with work at QuoVadis and my Master's degree studies at
Stanford. But I wanted to give you some quick updates:
1. Yesterday
PBS (Channel 5) was *fixed* but they put in PBSATL, which is
still incorrect. I've opened another ticket with TiVo
Customer Support to resolve this.
2. I've
noticed that HDNet (Channel 420) is on the incorrect time
(when you try to record Star Trek, it records Cops). I've
opened a ticket for this too.
3. Likewise,
I've received reports that channel 18 is on the incorrect
time zone. I'll open a ticket for this too.
4. Amazon
Unbox - I've received mixed reports on the success of this.
Some of us are using it without problems and others are
receiving an error:
We are
sorry...
We could not process your
order because of geographical restrictions on the product
which you were attempting to purchase. Please refer to the
terms of use for this product to determine the geographical
restrictions.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
I've tried to
troubleshoot this with a few people and from what we can see
it is because your billing &/or shipping address is not in
the US. It works for me and my billing/shipping address is
my ZipX address in the US.
5. Christmas
is coming! So alot of you will have tons of questions on
Christmas Day when you unwrap your new TiVo. I am hoping to
have full instructions for you by that day. :)
Amazon Unbox
(Oct 9th, 2007)
By some magic,
Amazon Unbox has started working in Bermuda! Thanks to
Christian for bringing this to my attention. I was testing
it through a proxy server, but not successfully.
Then all of
sudden it started working properly. Check it out at
www.amazon.com/unbox.
Also make sure your TiVo has the minimum OS (8.1a) before
you attempt. Customer support info for Amazon Unbox is at
www.tivo.com.
New
Information Coming
I've moved my
TiVo blog to one of my other websites (www.geek.bm),
this is a better home for it because I'm loading all my
technology related information for Bermuda into this
website.
Now that
the lineups have settled, I'm posting the following
information shortly:
Also, I
emailed Amy at TiVo Lineup Team to find out what is
happening with the channel lineup fixes, awaiting
response.
Now that
Bermuda is a legitimate setup with TiVo, don't forget to
use the TiVo Support resources (http://customersupport.tivo.com/Support.aspx)
for any setup questions you may have.
Thanks
Alison!!
Thanks to
Alison on the line-up team at TiVo for sending me some TiVo
gear. :)
TiVo Happy
Hour on Friday (Sept 21st) @ 5:30pm
We will be
holding a TiVo Happy Hour to officially celebrate the return
of TiVo to Bermuda.
Date: Friday, September 21st,
2007
Time: 5:30 to 7:00pm
Place: Lemon Tree
Cash bar. No excuses for
being unable to attend, we all know your TiVo will catch any
TV you might miss. :)
Lineup Tweaks
Coming -
September 13th, 2007
9:30am:
FYI. I submitted the channel lineup tweaks and I'm waiting
to get confirmation they've been fixed. Should be done
sometime next week.
I'm Back -
August 29th, 2007
9:30am:
I'm back on the island and will be submitting all the
channel fixes this week. Also, here are some quick notes
that people are getting stuck on.
-
Dual Tuner
- If you have dual tuner, disable the dual tuner
-
When it
says select cable provider, select Bermuda Cablevision,
DON'T select "I'm not sure"
While I was in
Boston this weekend, I went to Best Buy and noticed that the
TiVo Series 2 is FREE with one year subscription. :)
Yeah Baby! -
August 23rd, 2007
9:30am:
Most of you have discovered that the correct line-up was
pushed out last night, so we now have channels 1 through
700+. I repeated my Guided Setup yesterday to get it
working, but some people have reported that the TiVo
automatically added channels 1 through 99. If you don't have
the first 100 channels then simply rerun the Guided Setup.
Over the next
week I'm going to check each channel and make sure it
correctly matches the TiVo channel lineup. Then I will
submit any corrections as one batch to TiVo. Currently these
are the tweaks that have been reported to me:
-
301 (HBO2)
- Time difference, probably West Coast lineup (reported
by Duncan)
-
140 (FX) -
Is giving the FX Latino lineup, should be regular FX
(reported by Kevin)
-
118
(Disney) - Lineup is in Spanish, should be English
(reported by Marc)
Please email
me if you find any other lineup problems. Note I will be in
Boston until Tuesday, so won't respond to emails as quickly.
Thanks to
everyone who has supported me during this 7 month task,
particularly to Terry at Cablevision, Mike, Christian and
Alex. Big thanks to Garth, Alison, Devon, Marcel & Max at
TiVo; we butted heads a few times, but finally got it all
sorted out, thanks! Thanks to Manalo at Tribune for working
hard to get the deal sealed for the data feed. Also thanks
to everyone who has sent their vote of thanks to me by
email. In September I'll try to organize a TiVo Happy Hour
at one of the bars in Hamilton and we can all celebrate the
return of TiVo. The guys from TiVo & Tribune are welcome to
fly to Bermuda and celebrate with us, watch this space for
time & place.
On an
administrative note, don't forget to call TiVo and get your
credit for the 7 months you were without TiVo. Be nice!!!
The TiVo lineup team is working hand in hand with us now, so
I don't want to upset them.
Lineup Fixed -
August 22nd, 2007
9:45am:
I received a voicemail from Garth & Alison at TiVo. The
lineup has been fixed (channel 1 through 700+). Tribune is
pushing out the new data feed to TiVo today and the data
feed will probably hit our boxes on Friday. So on Friday
morning I will re-run the Guided Setup. Almost there!
More Progress -
August 20th, 2007
8:15pm:
Just talking with TiVo now, problem is with Tribune. Alison
(who rocks!) is going to have someone call me back on
Tuesday.
Analog
Channels -
August 17th, 2007
9:30am:
This morning I did a quick switch on my TiVo. When the
Guided Setup asks you if you have digital cable, select I AM
NOT SURE. This will enable analog channels 1 through 88. It
unfortunately then turns off channels 100+, but this is a
quick fix until TiVo fixes everything.
I was very
happy to see that the time is correct on the TiVo and we now
actually have the data feeds for local channels (i.e. ZBM
News @ 7pm). Very cool. Once the final tweaks are in place
we should be done. :)
Quick thanks
to my company
QuoVadis
who have patiently let me do various blog updates and calls
to TiVo on company time. Feel free to buy some SSL
certificates, DR services, hosting, backup services, etc...
as a thank you. :)
Missing,
reward if found channels 2 through 99 -
August 16th, 2007
7:10pm:
Just spoke with TiVo and reported the following problems:
-
Channels 1
through 9 missing
-
138 should
be CBC
-
415 should
be the west coast feed
-
Premium HD
channels are missing
The guys at
TiVo are going to fast track this fix for us and have it
resolved by Saturday. Stay tuned. :)
7:00pm:
I just slipped home to check my TiVo and like most of you
noticed that channels 2 through 99 are missing. I'm calling
TiVo now.
Magic Number
is 00532 -
August 16th, 2007
12:30pm:
THE DAY HAS FINALLY COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
I just
received a voicemail from Garth at TiVo who informed me the
Bermuda channel lineup is activated under ZIP code 00532. I
will be heading home right after work and will test it. If
anyone is home this afternoon, please feel free to test and
email me the results.
If this works,
mark your calendars, we will have a TiVo Bermuda Happy Hour
next week. :)
1:30pm:
Barry reports that zip code 00532 is working. He is
repeating the guided setup now. I will test tonight and
provide screenshots.
3:00pm:
Screenshots courtesy of Alex! Awesome, we are up and
running!
Mid August is
almost here -
August 11th, 2007
2:30pm:
I just spoke with TiVo, they are going to call me back on
Monday or Tuesday with an update as the deadline for them to
resolve this is mid August. I'm hoping that they re-enable
TiVo for us all as my birthday gift on Tuesday!
Arggghhhhh -
July 24th, 2007
9:30am:
Garth called me back yesterday to give me a status update,
TiVo Corporate is testing the new line-up and expects it to
be rolled out by mid August, arghhhhhh! I've asked TiVo
Corporate to call me when they want me to start testing. In
the meantime, everyone is due for another 3 month credit, so
make sure you call in and request it.
Nice
Supervisor -
July 16th, 2007
5:45pm:
As you would expect, I put a note in my calendar to call
TiVo *mid month* to find out if our line-up has been
enabled. I spoke to a very nice supervisor at TiVo who was
pleasant and helpful (a change from some of my previous
experiences).
He informed me
that he didn't see an update in the system, but just left
messages with his colleagues and will call me back tonight.
I will keep you posted.
Mid Month -
July 2nd, 2007
7:15pm:
I have just spoken to TiVo and the representative told me
that TiVo is expecting to enable the channel line-up for
mid-July. So, we will touch base then to find out if they
are on track.
My New Found
Distaste for TiVo -
June 21st, 2007
5:00pm:
Hi Everyone, it has been awhile since I've updated you on
progress, or lack thereof. A few minor events have occurred:
1. TiVo's
Lawyer has been chasing Corporate for me, with little
result.
2. My contact
at Tribune is not returning my emails because he is upset
that I've posting the lack of progress on this website. Very
unprofessional, but I guess he forgets I'm doing this for
free, but his company gets paid $4,800 a year for the data
feed to TiVo, just for Bermuda.
3. Garth at
TiVo Help Desk continues to tell me they are working on it.
Ok Garth, I'm still holding my breath (now for 76 days,
world record).
4. I just (5
minutes ago) got a phone call from Terry Roberson (CEO of
Bermuda Cablevision) who was checking on the progress of
TiVo. Terry has been working with TiVo Corporate & Tribune
as well and gave them final approval 35 days ago to proceed.
Terry @ Cablevision has been a great help and should be
commended for his efforts. TiVo on the other are probably
the worst example of customer service I have ever seen.
I will put
another call into TiVo tonight and follow-up with Terry
tomorrow morning who is going to double his efforts on our
behalf.
Followup -
June 7th, 2007
5:45pm:
I sent an email to TiVo Corporate today to ask what is going
on. I'm not hopeful for anything, but will stay on top of
them.
Still Looking
Into It -
May 30th, 2007
3:15pm:
Just got a call from Garth at TiVo, Corporate are *still
looking into it*. Groan. I've also emailed another contact I
have at TiVo Corporate to see if he can walk down the hall
and push things along.
Still Waiting -
May 29th, 2007
8:15pm:
Wow, I am amazed at how slow TiVo is. I just called the
line-up team again and spoke with Patrick, who informed me
that case number 6503113 is still awaiting response from
TiVo Corporate. Garth is generally avoiding taking my calls
now because he has nothing to report.
Hurry Up &
Wait -
May 18th, 2007
7:30pm:
I just spoke with TiVo again and Garth is chasing TiVo
Corporate for the latest update. There sounds like some
minor progress was made because TiVo gave me the name of the
person they are working with at Tribune to enable this. Also
he suggested that the solution will entail using a zip code
in Puerto Rico (so that the time zone be adjusted to AST).
A few of you
have called in and received contradictory or old
information, this is because the ticket I have open has all
the latest information and your tickets are not being
updated. I know you are all as frustrated as I am, but it is
probably best if you only call TiVo to get your credit,
don't try to fix the line-up problem yourself with TiVo
because it is confusing the situation at TiVo.
As I always I
will keep trying to resolve this for us and keep you posted.
Two Calls A
Week -
May 18th, 2007
11:30pm:
I am now making two calls a week to Garth at TiVo who
assures me TiVo Corporate is working on getting the line-up
rolled out to us. I am just as frustrated as the rest of you
in the lack of urgency from TiVo. Those of you who are
calling TiVo, please continue to do so, and complain about
the slowness in getting this implemented. I will continue
making my regular calls to TiVo.
Here is the
latest
voicemail left by TiVo with me.
Message states the following:
1. Amazon
Unbox currently doesn't work outside the USA.
2. Devon has
escalated our line-up problem *again*
Weekend Update -
May 6th, 2007
1:00pm:
I received a call from Jared at TiVo this weekend who
informed me that TiVo Corporate still hasn't given them an
update on the details of their rollout for Bermuda. I should
receive an update by Wednesday of this week.
Yes, like you
I am becoming extremely, extremely frustrated with TiVo who
move slower than any other company I've encountered. As
always I will keep you posted.
Friday Update -
April 27th, 2007
12:00pm:
I called TiVo yesterday and they are checking with the
corporate office to check the status of the testing before
the rollout the channel line-up back to us. Hopefully Garth
@ TiVo gives me a call today.
FYI. Alot of
people are having problems with Amazon Unbox, so for now I'm
going to take down the info until it can be tested further.
I suspect the problem might be because we don't have a
proper line-up.
Just a
friendly reminder, I don't work for TiVo, I don't make any
money from this, so please don't send me emails asking me to
call you to fix your TiVo problems. I will happily answer
your questions via email when my full-time job permits. :)
Here's an
interesting tid-bit, TiVo is watching, no pun intended. I
got an email from TiVo's lawyers thanking me for being such
a good TiVo fan, but they requested I take down the TiVo
logo and the TiVo private support numbers. Needless to say I
made the changes in about 2 minutes flat, I don't feel like
having TiVo lawyers chasing me. :)
Get ready TiVo
is coming back! -
April 24th, 2007
9:00am:
I've been chasing Tribune Media and they just told me that
they have finalized the data feeds to TiVo for Bermuda:
Message
from Tribune to Michael (Apr 23rd):
"I do have
some news for you. Tivo approved and we are moving forward
to
deliver the new data files. Tivo may need a few days or
weeks to adjust
on ingesting these new files. I will keep you posted on the
progress but
looks like is going to get done sooner rather than later."
I've requested
details of the solution (i.e. zip code, etc) so that I can
test it for everyone. I will keep you posted.
Come On
Tribune -
April 17th, 2007
11:00am:
I've been chasing Tribune Media Services to find out when
they will be rolling out the channel line-up for Bermuda. I
haven't heard from my contact since Friday. I will
keep chasing.
WE DID IT!!! -
April 5th, 2007
1:30pm:
I just spoke with TiVo and finally got approval from TiVo
Executive to re-enable TiVo in Bermuda! I am working with
Tribune right now to get it re-enabled and will keep you
posted. :)
IT WILL BE
ABOUT 7 TO 14 DAYS FOR THE LINE-UP TO PROPAGATE OUT TO YOUR
TIVO. I WILL PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS ONCE TRIBUNE CONFIRMS IT
HAS BEEN RE-ENABLED.
TiVo Drops the
Ball -
April 3rd, 2007
5:00pm:
I just spoke with our contact at Tribune Media Services who
met with TiVo last week. TiVo only touched on the "Bermuda"
issue briefly and didn't give it much time in the meeting.
Once again no one in TiVo wants to take responsibility for
the problem and we are still unable to find a decision maker
in TiVo to push this through. In a nut shell there are
approximately 600 subscribers in Bermuda, with an average of
$10 per month, represents $72,000 of revenue for TiVo per
year. This is in addition to the estimated $90,000 in
hardware sales to Bermuda.
So here are
the next steps:
Plan A
- Our contact at Tribune (who has worked tirelessly for us)
is going to spend this week getting in contact with the TiVo
Executive who can make the decision on this issue.
I have also
sent an email to Terry Roberson (new CEO at Bermuda
Cablevision) so I can meet with him to see if he can help us
get in contact with TiVo.
Plan B
- Tribune will contract for us at $400 per month to enable
channel lineups for Bermuda. We would have to find a
provider (i.e. Cablevision or WOW) to pay this fee for us.
Plan C
- We launch in essence a class action suit against TiVo by
cancelling all our services, demanding refunds for our
hardware and creating negative press for them.
But because
these negotiations are going to take longer then expected I
suggest you demand of TiVo that you are no longer charged on
your credit card for service you haven't been receiving for
three months.
I will be
stepping up the aggressiveness of our negotiations because
TiVo has had two months to sort this out. I'm getting tired
of waiting, so you can rest assured I will be pushing much
harder on them now.
Meetings with
TiVo -
March 27th, 2007
2:00pm:
Our contact from Tribune Media Services (Director of
International Sales) is meeting in person with TiVo this
week. So, hopefully we should have some new information by
the end of the week. This is taking longer than we expected,
but as you can imagine dealing with any larger corporate
entity takes longer. I will continue to keep you posted.
TiVo Making
Progress -
March 19th, 2007
10:00am:
I spoke with Amy in TiVo Level 3 Support on Friday. In a nut
shell she was unable to help us, she told me to call TiVo
Corporate, I don't know why she couldn't have told me this 2
months ago. But anyways, good news is that my contact
Tribune Media Services is now speaking to TiVo Corporate on
our behalf and he is giving me regular updates.
TiVo Where are
you? -
March 13th, 2007
5:30pm:
Small update, Alan Smith @ Cablevision called me back and
confirmed that Cablevision supports TiVo in Bermuda. Thanks
Alan! But TiVo still hasn't setup the conference call, so I
will press them tonight.
All Quiet -
March 11th, 2007
2:00pm:
I gave TiVo all the contact information last week for
Cablevision, WOW & Tribune Media Services, but haven't heard
back from Mike A. @ TiVo (Level 3 Tech Support). So, I've
reached out to my contacts at Tribune Media Services to ask
them to contact TiVo Corporate on my behalf. In addition,
Alan Smith @ Cablevision and Stanley Wright @ WOW have not
returned my calls from last week. If anyone knows them well,
please ask them to call me back or email me.
Also I have
received some more reports that TiVo has granted 3 month
credits for Bermuda customers in lieu of the current
situation. The TiVo customer support info is as follows:
Live agent
support available: Monday - Sunday
7:00 AM - 8:00 PM Pacific
Phone number: 877-367-8486
New
Information -
March 6th, 2007
9:00pm:
Some things I have
FOR SALE, if
anyone is interested.
6:00pm:
Good news, I've just spoken with TiVo and Tribune Media
Services. We will be having a conference call sometime next
week to get official support for Bermuda. Things are
progressing nicely (though not quickly). Please bear with us
as I think this should all be done by the end of March.
12:00pm:
I've received a few emails from people asking the status of
our line-ups. I'm waiting to hear back from Alison at the
TiVo Line-up Team, who is confident the problem will be
resolved. But here a few tidbits of info:
1. Apparently
TiVo is refusing to give credits / refunds for Bermuda
customers. They have told a few customers that they either
wait or cancel the service outright (with a disconnect fee
if you are an annual subscription customer). Obviously I
can't tell you what to do with your money. Currently, I'm
letting TiVo charge my credit card, even though I'm not
getting service. If they tell me the service is cancelled,
then I will stop the charges on my credit card. I'm hoping
this gets resolved this month.
2. Rumours.
rumours, rumours. Cablevision were not the ones who told
TiVo to cancel the service, this is a rumour. Cablevision
has verbally confirmed they are happy to have TiVo service
on the island.
New
Information -
February 26th, 2007
6:00pm:
I'm just back from my business trip in Europe and have just
spoke with TiVo directly (Alison in the channel line-up
team) and she is going to escalate to corporate again to
have them setup a conference call with me, some other TiVo
experts in Bermuda and the TiVo executive team. She is
confident that this will be resolved in the next few weeks
and TiVo will be re-enabled / fully supported in Bermuda. So
great news!!!
In the
meantime, a few people have successfully secured 3 months
free service from TiVo because the Bermuda channel line-up
doesn't work. So if you want TiVo to stop charging your
credit card, simply call in, tell them you would like a 3
month credit while the Line-up Team sorts out the Bermuda
problem.
Nothing Yet -
February 20th, 2007
7:00pm
Update: I have received a number of emails today from
Bermuda based TiVo subscribers stating they have called or
emailed TiVo to complain about being billed for a service
that has been removed. Please keep calling & emailing
TiVo to complain, demand your money back! We need to
make them realize how many Bermuda based customers they
actual have. It seems to be working because some subscribers
have caused customer service reps to start investigating why
the service was actually turned off. More info to come soon.
Other blogs
tracking the TiVo Saga in Bermuda:
4:00am
Update: I have emailed TiVo again to ask the status,
still no response. I also heard back from Tribune Media
Services, who said they would be happy to help if TiVo
allowed the service in Bermuda. So, please keep calling and
complaining to TiVo, ask them to stop charging your credit
cards.
Sound of
silence -
February 16th, 2007
5:00am
Update: Well, haven't heard a word from TiVo Corporate
yet. I'm guessing as a large organization they have a few
meetings to hold before they respond to me.
In the
meantime, I got a great suggestion from Barry who is using
Zip Code 21601. This channel line-up will give you program
data for the 3 big networks (ABC, NBC, CBS). Thanks Barry!
I have also
contacted Tribune Media Services (who provide the channel
line-up data feeds for TiVo) and requested that their Zap2
line-up (147BERM) be added to the TiVo data feeds with an
associated Zip Code.
I'm currently
working in Europe until the 25th, so let me know by
email if you find other channel
line-ups that are close to our CableVision line-up. And also
can someone tell me what is happening on Hereos? :)
Continuing Saga -
February 12th, 2007
5:30pm
Update: Just heard back from TiVo, my request has been
forwarded to their corporate offices. Let's all cross our
fingers and hope for the best.
9:00am
Update: To date I have
yet to get a response from TiVo. I emailed them to ask if we
could formally have Bermuda added as part of the TiVo
service, but no response. I have sent another email today to
prompt them again. I will remind them that with a minimum of
300 TiVos in Bermuda with service, this represents a minimum
of $60,000 of their revenue stream. In the meantime, here
are my suggestions to get us through this tough time:
1. Setup your
TiVo to record all your favorite programs by time & channel.
This may take you about 30 minutes to setup all your
recordings, but it will be worthwhile so you can keep using
your TiVo. I have done this with mine so I can still record
Heroes, Star Trek, Evening News, etc...
Remember your
TiVo might be on Eastern Standard Time, so you will need to
account for this when manually setting up record by time &
channel.
2. Refund -
I'm hesitant to make this suggestion, as I would like to
keep up good relations with TiVo. But all of us have paid at
a minimum, annual subscriptions for our service, thus by
removing our channel line-up they are not giving us the
service we paid for. So if you want, call TiVo and demand a
refund for your subscription, tell the customer service
representative that your channel line-up was removed by the
line-up team and you want a refund. If you want to take it
an extra step, tell your bank to refuse charges from TiVo.
Perhaps if we start doing this, they will return my requests
to open formal talks to have TiVo service established in
Bermuda.
3. Group
Counseling - Some of you are in TiVo withdrawal, so I
suggest you meet on Fridays at your favorite bar and drown
our sorrows together. :)
As always, I
will keep you posted via this website. On a related note, my
plan is move all my TiVo information to
www.geek.bm, so please look
out for that in the next month.
TiVo Service
Interruption in Bermuda -
February 4th, 2007
At the request
of TiVo this website has been removed, until we can explore
formal channels for establishing TiVo service in Bermuda.
Please do not contact TiVo directly on the Bermuda channel
line-ups until we find another avenue to get the service in
Bermuda.
Will keep you posted.
TiVo Service
Interruption in Bermuda -
February 1st, 2007
It is come to
our attention that TiVo appears to have deleted the channel
line-ups for Bermuda. I suspect that because so many people
got TiVos for Christmas, someone inadvertently told TiVo that
they have it working in Bermuda. And because TiVo does not
recognize the service in Bermuda, they may have deleted the
channel line-ups.
Currently one
of the Bermuda TiVo Illuminati is on the phone with TiVo
trying to resolve the problem. If this doesn't work, then I
may try to approach TiVo formally to have Bermuda added to
their service offering.
Note, existing
TiVos will continue to work until it goes to request new
program data (usually every two weeks). Once your TiVo runs
out of program data, set your recordings to record by
channel & time (remember to account for the fact that TiVos
in Bermuda are on Eastern Standard Time).
I will keep
you posted.
